The latest news and updates for the Johnian community |
Dear ,
This weekend, we've invited this year's graduating students to virtually raise a glass with us in commemoration of all that they have achieved in spite of 2020's adverse and unprecedented circumstances. Any other year, we would have been celebrating with them in person in the Master's Garden. It's a shame to have missed so many opportunities to connect with one another in person this year, but it's also heartening to see how many events and practices have been reimagined in creative and surprising ways: one standout example is the May Week Mega Event on 28 June, a live-streamed evening of entertainment featuring high-quality performances by students, staff and alumni from across the University, including St John's.
Usually at this time of year we would also be welcoming many of you back for our reunion events. The Johnian Dinners on 27 June and 5 September, the Johnian Lunch on 28 June, and the 50 Year Dinner on 19 September have all been casualties of lockdown. We very much look forward to being able to invite you back when things are more settled, ensuring that none of you miss out on an opportunity to reunite with your contemporaries. As soon as we can realistically reschedule our programme in light of government advice, we'll update the website with more information on future dates, and be in touch by email.
We're pleased to draw your attention to this year's Johnian Society Day in September, which we're in the process of reformatting as a digital event. Taking food sustainability as its focus, this year's celebration will feature a panel discussion and a virtual pub quiz. Read on for further details.
With best wishes,
The Development Office

Following on from the warm reception of last month's recipe for Dauphinoise potatoes, we're pleased to share with you another decadent delight from the Buttery Dining Room: the chocolate nemesis. Flourless and faultless, this is a Development Office favourite. As before, share with family and friends!

Students leaving university in 2020 are facing significant challenges as they plan their future amid the uncertainty posed by COVID-19. Final year students at St John’s have worked incredibly hard to get to this point, but like many of us, they are having to rapidly adjust their plans.
While some of the undergraduates leaving us this year have job offers or further study tied up, others are still seeking opportunities or have had offers revoked. Beyond accessing the support provided by the University Careers Service, many are keen to connect with Johnian alumni to talk through ideas or find inspiration.
If your company's grad scheme remains open for 2020, or you have opportunities that might suit a new Grad, please email us and we'll pass this on to the JCR. If you're willing to share the benefit of your experience directly with a Grad on Johnian Hub, please join the 2020 Grads Mentoring group. Once alumni have joined, we'll invite our Grads to do the same, and then they can reach out to you with questions.
